Naturado's gentle nail polish remover is probably one of the first organic removers without an aggressive acetone smell.
Formulated with ethyl lactate derived from corn starch, contrary to acetone (GMS removers) or ethyl acetate (natural remover), this active doesn't cause dryness or chapping, it is not irritating for the skin or mucous membranes, and is also less flammable and less toxic.
To protect the skin, the formula is enriched with lavender floral water, glycerin and jojoba.

Ethyl lactate, a gentle solvent for humans and the environment
An 2003 estimation shows that 14 million tons of organic solvents are used every year in the world. The hazards for the workers, the public and the environment associated with these has lead companies to works towards replacing many of them. Knowledge assessments were produced in 1995 and in 2002 to help the health, safety and environment advocates find products to replace traditional solvents or find replacement procedures.
"New" solvents have appeared in workplaces. Among these "new" solvents is ethyl lactate.
Ethyl lactate is a liquid ester, not very volatile, flammable, soluble in water and organic solvents, that is found naturally in apples, citrus fruit, pineapple, cocoa, bread, and several alcoholic beverages. It is made naturally by fermentation, from lactic acid, which comes from natural sources itself, such as corn starch. As well as being used as a food preservative, ethyl lactate is used more and more as a nail polish and paint remover, to strip painted pieces and degrease metal pieces.
There is little data concerning professional exposure or toxic effects on humans, as no specific allergic reactions have been observed. However, various data in animals, especially the biotransformation of ethyl lactate into lactic acid and ethanol, allow the substance to be classified as of low toxicity. Easily degradable, not very toxic for aquatic organisms, respecting the ozone layer, ethyl lactate can be considered as having little effect on the environment.
Its "flash point", lower than that of acetone, alcohol or even ethyl acetate, makes it a less volatile solvent, that generates less emissions in the air, therefore less dangerous for the respiratory tract.
Its smell is more gentle and it is less flammable, therefore less dangerous to manipulate. Finally, ethyl lactate doesn't irritate the skin, and once absorbed into the skin, it changes, in contact with water, into ethanol and lactic acid, which would reduce skin pH, and thus prevent the appearance of acne. However, in case of contact with the eyes, its acid nature proves to be irritating. This product should therefore not be used near the mucous membranes.
Generally, ethyl lactate is an ideal replacement product for several toxic, carcinogenic or very flammable solvents, such as acetone.
